In 1968, following on from the success of the BMW 1600, BMW added a new model, the 2002. The 2002 looked very similar to the smaller engine models, although it gained extra bright-work and ornamentation. As with the 1502 and 1602 the new car came with a choice of either a two-door saloon or three-door Touring hatch body. In addition a limited number of convertible 2002's were also built.
